Things To Do Before Joining A Coaching Center And The Reasons Behind It!

Here are the 9 things you should do before joining an institute for taking coaching to crack any competitive exam. (I will be discussing every point in the perspective of a guy who wants to crack a government engineering job). The article doesn’t include any entertainment, please bear with it.

Health checkup and treatments: 
If you are suffering from any breathing issues or other health related issues, get the treatment and fix your body before you join an institute.



Reason: Your brain should get sufficient oxygen to work properly. You will also feel uneasy and cannot concentrate or focus if you are having breathing issues. Symptoms: Snoring, regular cough or cold.

Daily Routine:
You should wake up by 7:00 AM and sit for studying by 8:00 AM, should be awake for the whole day (Includes Afternoon) and close your stuff by 10:00 PM and Sleep by 11:00 PM.

Reason: Generally classes in a coaching institute will be in between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with breaks. So you need to tame your body such that it will be active in that time. It will be hard for first few days of training period, but you will be habituated within a week.

Focusing Time:
As per the experiments done by scientists an average human being can focus on something at a stretch for 50mins. This is the reason why duration of each class in any college will be in between 45-50mins. You need to refresh your brain by taking a break of 5-10mins for every 50mins of focusing. If your capacity is for 10mins initially, take a break of 5mins for every 10min session and gradually increase it to 50mins by the end of 2 weeks and reach 3hrs by the time you join a coaching centre.



Reason: Even though it was said that an average human being can focus only for 50mins without taking a break, all the competitive exams that are being conducted will have duration of 3hrs to 4.5hrs per session. As you are required to stay focused throughout the exam, you need to tame your brain and body for that from now.

Getting grip over all important subjects:
Many live in a misconception that it’s the job of a coaching institute to make you learn subject. But they will only raise your bars to greater extent after you tried reaching some extent. You need to finish 3 readings of all the core subjects through respective textbooks (Not Materials) in a gap of 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks and write down the most important data in a book by devoting less than 4 pages/ 2 papers per chapter. By the time you join the institute you need to finish at least 2 readings of every core subject you have by going through the notes you prepared, with this you will be eligible to sit at a coaching centre.



Reason 1: Most of the coaching institutes use the phrase “As we learnt in previous chapter or we will discuss this in next chapter.” By giving 2-3 rounds before joining an institution you will know the basics and the structure of each subject. You will get the bird eye view of the subject and linkage of each topic, with that you will never lose connection while listening.

Reason 2: We knew that human brain has tendency to erase any data after 10 days if not revised. This is the reason why we have to revise once after 1 week gap of completing a subject. The brain now will not forget the data that you revised for another 20 days and this is the reason why you need to revise the subject you finished again after 2 weeks and same for the 3 reading after 3 weeks, after which you will not forget that data for a very long time. Mastering your brain is an art and if you succeeded it, then your brain will never trouble you.

Change of Food Habits: 
This is something that we collectively do wrong. We are habituated to eat the least for Breakfast, medium for Lunch and Heavy for Dinner. Actually you have to do reverse of it. Your breakfast should be your heaviest meal because you need maximum energy during day time. You need to eat medium during Lunch and liter during dinner. You also need to have some food supplement for every 3hrs.



Reason : For every 3hrs your stomach will signal your brain that it needs food because of that we shift our focus and later will lose focus till the time we eat something and stomach will send signals to brain that this guy will not give me food for another 6hrs, So make him eat more. With this signal you will eat more during Lunch and Dinner, which further damages your metabolism and will make you feel drowsy. There are two types of food. One is that that makes you energetic after eating it and the other is that that makes you feel drowsy after having it. So always choose that food which keeps you awake during the daytime and choose the other type during nights.

Overcome Distractions: 
This is something you need it overcome to devote time for books during the period before you join an institute. There are many distractions that will increase the distance between you and your books, Such as Mobile, TV, Bike, Laptop, and the never ending movie collection or serials.



Reason: Anything that makes you far from books for more than 30mins is a distraction. It is ok to refresh during breaks but any break should not be more than 30mins. If you can manage overcoming this, you will lead the life by yourself. If not you are being controlled by an external force.

Explain to others:
Hire a person to keep a track on you (Generally your father or mother or sibling; Even if they are illiterates). Before going to bed explain them briefly what all you have learnt that day and You don’t need to be technical with them, Explain it in simple language and if they understood it then you won the game.



Reason: If you can make a lame person understand something you learnt and clarify every doubt they raised, then you are said to be contented with that subject.

Rewarding Yourself: 
This is the most important thing to do before joining a coaching institute. Congratulate yourself after completing a topic or chapter or subject. Appreciate and treat yourself on every seventh day (Generally Sunday). Go for a movie or anything that you feel interested, but do not touch your books on that seventh day. Enjoy that day and start an exciting week again.



Reason: By rewarding yourself you will get a reason or motivation to study harder. Generally we will feel guilty if we went to a movie without completing our duties and responsibilities. Whereas when you treat yourself after completing your responsibilities you will enjoy it to the fullest. “Work hard and Party harder.”

Discuss with your parents and Never Give-up: 
Even trying so hard you may fail in a competitive exam before or after joining coaching center. At that point do not give-up the thought of fighting. It may take 5 years to achieve your goal of getting a government job, its great if you cracked a job or college seat that you wanted in the very first attempt. But if you failed then don’t lose courage. Talk to your parents; say that you are not a James Bond, Say that you will try determinately till you get what you wanted. It is ok to get a job even when you are 30 years old. Cracking GATE/IES/PSU may take 5 years of preparation, but your efforts will not be unrewarded. It’s ok to fail and fail and fail and fail and fail. But you will succeed one day. These jobs worth your time and opportunities are plenty if you are contented.



Reason: Many feel bad and disappointed when they fail and shift their line. If you are an engineer and cleared all the subjects then you are eligible for the job which means that you can reach those standards. An IIT topper may crack it in first attempt, An Average guy from IIT may crack it in second attempt, An NIT guy may crack it in third attempt, A guy from Top local college may crack it in fourth attempt. But you can crack it at least in fifth attempt and by that time you will be contented and above the bars of an IITian. Strive hard, Fight till you get it.

Tips:
Bath with hot water before sleeping, this will give you a feeling of sleeping for 3hrs extra. You will energetic from the second you wake.


Start studying from 8:00 AM till 12:00PM with breaks of 10mins for every 50mins of studying. Take long break between 12:00PM to 2:00PM (Don’t Sleep) and start studying from 2:00PM to 5:00PM with intermediate breaks for every 50mins and finally sit again from 7:00PM to 10:00PM and wrap up for the day.


Have your dinner (Not Heavy) before 7:00 PM every day and eat something (again not heavy) before sleeping.


Exercise in between 5:00PM to 7:00PM; Evening is the best time for gym and Mornings are the worst.


Eliminate every relationship that needs your time till are hired. Any good and loyal relationship will wait, but the golden period of first few years of completion of graduation will never come back. You will give your best performance in first 5 years of completion of graduation. It worth your time.
